JUVE Handbuch Steuerrecht 2024

JUVE Tax Handbook 2024 ranks a total of 189 law firms in its current, seventh edition. The research team conducted almost 1,900 personal interviews with advisors, clients and officials.

POELLATH is listed with 13 professionals, 6 of whom are recognized as “leading advisors”.

Dr. Andreas Richter, Prof. Dr. Reinhard Pöllath and Dr. Stephan Viskorf are the three top experts and “leading advisors” representing the “private clients and foundations” sector. With this result, the firm has once again achieved the maximum number of five stars. In addition to Dr. Stephan Viskorf and Prof. Dr. Reinhard Pöllath, Dr. Andreas Richter (“expert contact in Frankfurt and Berlin”) and Dr. Katharina Gollan (“smart, prudent and professionally excellent”) were “frequently recommended”. POELLATH “confidently maintains its position at the top of the market” when it comes to advising HNW private clients. The firm covers “practically all facets of the advisory field”, as the “wheels of tax, inheritance and corporate law advice mesh smoothly”. This “high-quality advice” is also of interest to start-up founders who, for example, are confronted with questions regarding asset distribution and succession after an exit. The team can also “routinely answer cross-border questions with the help of its informal network of law firms”.

Dr. Barbara Koch-Schulte and Dr. Benedikt Hohaus were also named “leading partners” in the HR tax sector. The law firm is “like no other player in HR tax for specialized advice on remuneration systems such as management participations”. Here, the team offers “the complete package: from conception to defense of tax audits”. Increasingly, the lawyers are also involved in FS or BFH proceedings. The majority of clients are financial investors, as well as corporates, managing directors and board members.

Berlin partner Amos Veith is recognized as a “leading advisor” for financial tax and his “very good expertise” is confirmed by competitors. Other “frequently recommended advisors” are Dr. Michael Best, Ronald Buge, Dr. Jens Steinmüller and Uwe Bärenz, whom clients praise for his “sound advice”. The firm is “like no other for tax, regulatory and corporate law advice for practically all sides in the PE and VC industry”. VC and PE clients alike therefore seek this “broad advice”: Regulatory aspects with developments in fund and investor supervisory law such as Solvency II Review, AIFMD 2, fund compliance and ESG compliance, as well as the VAT exemption on management fees from a tax law perspective, CFC taxation due to ATAD and tax compliance. In addition, “comprehensive advice” on KVG compliance is a “valued complement to broad-based financial tax advice” for many tax advisors.

POELLATH’s financial tax practice is closely linked to the transaction practice, particularly with regard to drafting of tax contracts and structuring advice. The firm enjoys an “excellent reputation”, particularly for its tax advice on mid-cap deals for private equity firms. In addition, it is “increasingly involved at the interface of legal and regulatory changes, for example amendments to the interest barrier and loss offsetting as part of the law to strengthen growth opportunities, changes in employee participations and new regulations on real estate transfer tax for share deals”. “Frequently recommended advisors” in these practice areas are Dr. Michael Best, Dr. Hardy Fischer and Dr. Peter Bujotzek.
