POELLATH advises yabeo on the sale of TerraLoupe

Venture capital investor yabeo realizes a successful exit with TerraLoupe, a yabeo portfolio company since 2019. The acquirer was the US technology company Edge Case Research.

The Munich-based tech startup was founded in 2014; the company has 14 employees and specializes in the algorithm-based analysis of aerial images that are translated into 3D image data. Edge Case Research is particularly interested in TerraLoupe’s deep learning algorithms, which can detect nearby objects such as pedestrians in the field of autonomous driving. Edge Case Research Deutschland GmbH has retained all employees and the company will continue to be headquartered in TerraLoupe’s previous offices

Edge Case Research is a US-based technology company that develops perception and risk analysis systems for autonomous applications in the mobility and robotics industries. The goal is to make autonomous systems safer. Unsafe traffic situations with high hazard potential are detected and converted into learning signals that make the self-driving car safer. These “edge cases” are better recognized and optimized through self-learning using feedback effects - from the vehicle’s on-board computer to the edge case research platform and back to the vehicle.
