POELLATH advises German Edge Cloud GmbH & Co. KG on sale of its “Cloud & Edge” division
German Edge Cloud GmbH & Co. KG (“GEC”), part of the Friedhelm Loh Group, has sold its “Cloud & Edge” division to WIIT AG, a German subsidiary of WIIT S.p.A. (“WIIT”). The business unit sold comprises cloud services (infrastructure services and cloud computing with a particular focus on data management, data analysis, virtual workstations, etc.) and edge computing (edge computing appliances with ready-to-use software and hardware systems).
Based in Eschborn (near Frankfurt) and Limburg, GEC is part of the owner-managed Friedhelm Loh Group and is a provider of software, services and technologies that support industrial companies in their transition to a digitalized and energy-efficient factory, for example through complete transparency of manufacturing processes and energy flows. The Friedhelm Loh Group is a German group of companies headquartered in Haiger, Hesse, with 95 subsidiaries worldwide. Its companies support efficient processes in industry, business and trade with system solutions, coordinated software, hardware and services. The group employs 12,100 people and generated a turnover of three billion euros in 2023.
WIIT is a leading European provider of cloud and cybersecurity services, offering end-to-end enablement and infrastructure services through 15 data centers located in Germany and Italy. The company is one of the world’s most certified partners for SAP management. By integrating GEC’s cloud and edge platform business, WIIT will establish a new pan-European center of excellence for cloud and edge services and accelerate growth in this segment.
