P+P advises the management of Studienkreis on the acquisition by IK Investment Partners
The IK Small Cap I Fund, managed by financial investor IK Investment Partners, acquires Studienkreis GmbH, a leading provider of tutoring for students in Germany. The investment group AURELIUS is the seller of the shares. The management of Studienkreis also becomes shareholder in the course of the transaction.
AURELIUS acquired the Studienkreis Group in 2013 from the Franz Cornelsen Bildungsgruppe (educational publishing group). The sale price is EUR 71.7 million. The transaction is still subject to the approval of the relevant antitrust authorities; closing is expected in December 2017.
Studienkreis is one of the leading private educational providers in Germany. Founded in 1974, the company offers qualified tutoring and remedial education alongside schoolwork for students in all classes and types of schools. With approximately 1,000 learning centers, the franchise network will teach 60,000 students in small groups in all major subjects, as well as offering special courses for exam preparation. In addition to classroom teaching, Studienkreis also has comprehensive online offerings and the Studienkreis-App, which supports homework and tutoring lesson planning.
Munich-based partner Dr. Barbara Koch-Schulte (private equity/M&A, tax law, MPP) comprehensively advised the management of Studienkreis GmbH on the management participation in the course of the transaction.
