P+P advises Fred Kogel, new group CEO, on the sale of Tele München to KKR
Investment firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P. ("KKR") has acquired Tele München Fernseh GmbH + Co. Produktionsgesellschaft ("TMG") from Herbert G. Kloiber. KKR plans to develop TMG into a platform that covers the entire value chain from film production to movie theaters and television; acquisitions will be a part of this expansion.
Fred Kogel, the new group CEO, and Markus Frerker, the new group COO, will be responsible for management of the entire group. P+P advised Fred Kogel and Markus Frerker in this respect.
TMG is headquartered in Munich and is an integrated media company that is considered to be a leading purchaser of rights to international feature films and series and has investments in television broadcasters. TMG has, inter alia, an investment in RTL II and approximately 85% of the listed Odeon Film AG, as well as many subsidiaries, such as Concorde Filmverleih, Clasart Film- und Fernsehproduktions GmbH, Tele München International and TV broadcaster Tele 5. TMG recently generated a total output of approx. EUR 520 million with approximately 1,800 employees.
Within the scope of the development of the platform, KKR has also acquired Universum Film, formerly part of the RTL Deutschland media group.
