POELLATH advises Amapharm GmbH on the acquisition of F. Hunziker + Co AG
The German Amapharm GmbH (“Amapharm”), a leading global supplier of vitamin gummies, has acquired F. Hunziker + Co AG (“Hunziker”), its long-standing major supplier and Swiss manufacturer and developer in the areas of functional products such as dietary supplements, medical devices, over-the-counter drugs and food. Together with the new Swiss managing director, Jürgen M. Spranz, and the president of the board of directors, Colette Schilling, Amapharm is working to successfully integrate Hunziker into the Amapharm Group by the end of 2024. POELLATH advised Amapharm on the legal and tax aspects of the acquisition.
Hunziker, headquartered in Dietikon (Switzerland), is a traditional family business specializing in the production of food products such as gummy bears and candies, some of which also contain medicinal components. The company employs around 160 people and is successfully managed as an independent family holding company by the third generation of the family owners.
Founded in 1977 and based in Neunkirchen (near Saarbrücken), Amapharm is the world market leader in the distribution of fruit gummies with vitamins. As a contract manufacturer, the company has been exporting nutritional supplements to over 90 countries worldwide for more than 40 years, specializing in formulations tailored to the needs and tastes of children age four and over, as well as adults. Amapharm’s vitamin fruit gummies can contain a wide range of vitamins in various compositions, blend with both vegetable and animal gelatin, cater to a variety of tastes with numerous colors and flavors and come in a wide variety of shapes, with either a sugar or smooth coating.
